歐語學程講座: 與現代藝術的對話DIALOGUES WITH CONTEMPORARY ART:INVESTIGATING INTERVISUAL SPACE

活動簡介

Contemporary communities of practice in the visual arts today invite more than looking for recognizable representations and depictions. Rather, contemporary art itself is an open space inviting participation in a process that is communicative by nature. Similar to linguistics, reading contemporary art requires decoding and encoding meaning extracted from complex layers of signification and networks of relationships. Dialoguing with contemporary art requires relationship-building and interpretation between the personal, and the social, political and cultural. How do we do that? What is involved? What is at stake? This presentation will look at various examples of contemporary art between Europe and Taiwan with the purpose of building an understanding of critical discourse analysis as it applies to the complexities of reading contemporary art through visual discourses. Examples will be given of how visual codes operate through complex intersections that are communicative in nature. The question "What do you see?" is no longer the relevant starting point; rather, "How do you see your experience" shifts understanding into dialoguing through open-spaces of shared and contested meaning.
